Italy v USA: Worst refereed World Cup game ever?


Meet Jorge Larrionda, a referee who hands out red cards for both deserved (Italy) and undeserved (USA) infractions. During the 1-1 Italy v United States tie game, Jorge managed to pare down the USA squad to just 9 players by yanking out cards for the ticky-ist of ticky tack penalties.


The USA game was good, and the tie was welcome, as it keeps the USA team’s chances alive to go to the second round. However, the real game of the day was the Czech Republic v Ghana, which Ghana managed to shock the poor Czechs 2-0, which is the soccer equivalent of the Washington Generals beating the Harlem Globetrotters in basketball…
